Band/Artist: Wendy Jepsen
Album: “Song of the Bride”
Label: Jepsen/Longpaw Music
Wendy Jepsen is an indie-solo artist, releasing her sophomore album, “Song of the Bride”. The CD is a collection of scripture based worship songs built around Wendy’s guitar and vocals. All are original, written by Wendy, save one, “Be Thou My Vision”, which is a Celtic arrangement of the classic hymn. Wendy’s vocals are pleasant and soothing, full of heart and adoration.
There is a warmth and reverence felt throughout the album. I enjoyed how each track is very scriptural as each song is based on various passages. The opening song, “Immanuel” is taken from John 1 and Isaiah 9:6. The tile track is taken from Song of Solomon 8:5, Hosea 2:15 and Revelation 5. And the whole album goes this way. I generally enjoy worship songs taken directly from scripture - it seems to drive the meaning home a bit more.
It’s hard to pick a favorite, as all spoke to me in different ways. I like the title track, a lot. The background choir vocals add a whole other level to Wendy’s vocals. I’d have to say that this CD would be a nice addition to any collection and I’m surprised that she hasn’t been signed anywhere yet.
