To be totally hones, I’m only familiar with a couple of the bands on this album, metal not really being my choice of styles. And with that, there are only a couple of songs that I’d be likely to listen to again. I’m sorry, but this CD just brings back to many bad memories of the 80’s glam rock thing. I shudder to think about it.
Now I’m not saying that there isn’t anything good about this CD, all the songs are well done. It’s just that most of them border line on the cliche. It’s nothing new and it sounds so 1985. That’s my story, my opinion, and I’m sticking with it. If you’re a total metal-head, then this will probably rock your socks off.
But there are a couple of really cool songs on here. The track, titled “Distorted”, by Living Sacrifice and Scott Albert Project is amazing. It’s a pounding, industrialish-electronic cacophony of sound.
I also really like the song by The Seventh Power titled “Christ Died.” This is a new find for me, having not heard of these guys before. It just so happens to feature Stryper drummer Robert Sweet. It’s a little bit Ozzie but with a more modern metal sound.
My last pick off here would be Circle of Dust’s “Refractor”. It’s kind of grungy and industrial in the vein of Ministry and Nine Inch Nails. It was originally released in 1998, but it still sounds great.
So there’s my take, if you’re not into metal, there’s only a bit that might appeal. If you’re into metal, this has it all.
