Band/Artist: Switchfoot

Album: “Oh! Gravity”

Label: Sparrow Records

Ok, here we go again. They’ve done it again. Switchfoot just gets better and better. There isn’t much to dislike about this album. It’s solid, straightforward rock that we’ve come to enjoy from these guys.

And keeping with past Switchfoot albums, they are relevant and speak of life and its issues with coming off preachy. I’ve always appreciated the way they have put their message out there. They aren’t in your face, but they’re honest.

One of my favorite songs off the CD, besides the title track, is “Dirty Second Hands.” It’s a gritty, bluesy song that I took to be about wasting the time one’s given in life. I’m not sure if that’s what they meant.

There’s also another song about the negative aspects of the American Dream, titled, obviously, “American Dream.” They sing of the dangers of the excesses and how that very success can rob us of our freedoms.

One of the more spiritual songs of the album would be “Head Over Heels.” The song is worshipful, declaring, “In this life, you’re the one place I call home.” The song builds to the climax, “In this life, you’re my only one.” It’s engaging, demanding to be cranked up and join in.

Again, I can’t do anything short of recommending this album.
