Band/Artist: Switchfoot Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II ipod
Album: “Nothing Is Sound”
Label: Sparrow Records
I must admit right up front that I’ve been a Switchfoot fan from the beginning. I’ve liked their sound and their lyrics. They have been criticized for being too pop
, for selling out, for not being evangelistic enough and for even being Christian.

With that comes Switchfoot’s 4th CD “Nothing is Sound,” the follow up to 2000’s release of “Learning to Breathe”. The band has added 2 new members to the original trio; Jerome Fontamillas on guitar and keyboards and Andrew Shirley on guitar.
Switchfoot has gotten better with each new album and “Nothing is Sound” is no different. It builds on the maturity of “Breathe” and moves beyond. The music is strong, the vocals are emotional. Jonathan’s intelligent songwriting just keeps getting better. I have had a hard time putting the CD down.
Right out of the box comes the song “Lonely Nation”, asking the question if more to what we have become. The listener is also confronted in “Easier than Love”, which is about the selling of sex in the media, and in the radio release “Stars,” a song pointing to something more than ourselves. You can hear longings for the world to come in “The Fatal Wound,” “The Setting Sun” and “The Blues.”
I think my favorite song though is “We Are One Tonight.” It’s a pop-rock tune full of emotion. I haven’t quite pinpointed the exact meaning of the song. Although, for me, it gives me a sense of becoming one with God, of reaching out to him, even though I and the world are flawed.
I highly recommend this album. One of the better CDs out this year.
