This is another brilliant album by a band that has such a unique and awesome sound. They mix beautiful haunting vocals with a driving musical sound that just makes the songs go over and over in your head. Songs like “Time after Time” and “Everything is burning” just hook you into singing along and they won’t leave you alone. Matt Baird, the lead vocalist, has a voice that is stunning and angelic all at the same time. When coupled with a few well placed screams here and there it gives Spoken a hard core edge that you cant help but enjoy.
One aspect of Spoken that I have loved over the past albums is once more a major role in their songs, the lyrics. The songs are not overly in your face but they clearly get the message across about love, life, and the unseen. In their song “From the Inside” the lyrics talk over and over about surrendering everything to God. In the song “1992″ it seems that this was the year Matt gave his life to the lord. The chorus says, “I gave you my heart, I gave everything to you, and in return you gave me everything that I could never deserve. You gave me freedom.”
I just love how Spoken weaves their music and lyrics to bring a positive experience to your ear. The vocals combined with their music makes this album one to own. If you’re a previous fan of Spoken or a new one I suggest you check this album out.
