Well it’s 2010 and here’s my first review of the new year. I received Me In Motion’s debut album this last week and have been giving it a spin. And honestly, I’m liking what I’m hearing.
Me In Motion is Seth Mosley (lead vocals/guitar), Tim Wilson (bass/background vocals) and Brian Dexter (drums/background vocals). They formed in 2006 by Seth. You can look for these guys to be touring with the Newsboys this year. Enough of the background, let’s get into the CD.
MIM’s music is a poppy, rock sound. I’d put them in the same genre as Hawk Nelson and Relient K, in terms of their sound, maybe not quite tongue in cheek as those two band. But a lot of hooky punk/pop rock and lots of catchy tunes and lyrics.
Seth, who does the writing and producing, says this about the music: “I’m trying to write songs that will inspire people to ‘live’ in a way they never have before, to realize that loving everyone, regardless of circumstance, is what it’s really all about. Doing simple things like helping their neighbors, or sitting by a lonely kid at the lunch table at school, or giving someone an open ear–It’s often those little things that let people around us know how much they’re really loved.”
And you can hear that in the music. It’s pretty straightforward in regards to their faith, no beating around the bushes here. Their radio debut song, “Losers” has this to say, “I was always on the outside… Don’t you think that Jesus loves us too? This gospel sounds like good news to all of us losers.”
Another song that I like is “Tears”, a song about crying out to Jesus for help in times of trouble. The song is a little reminiscent of the The Normals (if you remember those guys).
