Band/Artist: Mat Kearney
Album: “Bullet”
Label: Inpop Records
I know I’m a little late in getting this review done, but I wanted to do this one. This CD is probably one of my favorites for this year. The music is fresh and modern. It mixes hip hop, pop and modern rock to come up with something much different from the norm in Christian music.
If you’re even a casual listener to Christian music, you couldn’t have missed the big single from this CD, “Undeniable”. It was played constantly on the radio, but I never grew tired of hearing it. Actually though, my favorite song off the CD is the title track and love song, “Bullet.” The CD has many messages, some spiritual, some about love and life and some commentary on current culture. There’s even a Johnny Cash tribute with the emotional “Won’t Back Down”.
Mat Kearney hales from Oregon but has recently settled down in Nashville. He has worked with artists such as ZOEGirl and The Katinas. I really think that he is headed to big things from the response that his debut CD has received. This is probably one the must have CDs for this year, in my most humble opinion.
