Band/Artist: Lifehouse
Album: “Lifehouse”

Label: Geffen Records

I had been eagerly awaiting a new album by Lifehouse. Wondering what they might sound like with band members leaving and new ones joining. Or would they even release another album. The wait is finally over.

Their third album, simply self-titled “Lifehouse” is a change from their previous releases. The edginess is gone to a degree, although the emotion is still there. It’s also a bit mellower then the other 2 as well. But this doesn’t mean that it’s not good, it’s good. Maybe not as good as the others but it definitely grows on you.

The edgy, alt-rock sound is gone for a mellower acoustic, pop-rock vibe, think Jars of Clay . Jason Wade’s vocals are still strong, emotional and reflective. The songs are similar in content to their previous music, not overly spiritual but its there underneath waiting to be discovered.

The band has grown and matured and it shows. The songs cover topics such as strained relationships, encouragement during tough times and persevering in life. While they may not where their faith on their sleeve in their song-writing, you can sense it. Especially in songs like “Come Back Down” where Wade sings, “I hope that you can find your way back to the place where you belong.” My favorite song is the melancholic, “Better Luck Next Time.” It seems to be about a broken relationship that Wade is attempting to come to grips with.

The bottom line; this is a good, solid album. It is different from their previous work, so if you’re looking for another “Hanging by a Moment” you’re probably going to be disappointed. It shows the changes the band has gone through and reflects that fact, things sometimes change. This one is for the best.
