If you are into, as they said in Oh Brother Where Art Thou, “that good old-timey music,” then have I got an artist for you. Jeanne T. Arrigo, with a voice as smooth as butter and accompanied by several friends who just happen to be great musicians, has released a nice collection of her favorite hymns. Some are fairly well known, others not so much, but the 2-disk set is guaranteed to get your toes tapping.

Thou is one of my favorite movies, and I really like the music from the movie (I do have the soundtrack). And I’ll admit that I am a closet “old-timey” music fan, I’ve always like bluegrass and fold, but I’ve just never really dug into the genre. I have a couple of old blues CDs and a small assortment of folk and other stuff. But I’ve never spent the time to really get into the music and discover the artists. Jeanne’s album might just make me change that.
The album was recorded live at Jeanne’s church and is a mix of folk, pop, bluegrass and country. It’s a look back at the roots of Folk and Gospel music
, but still firmly rooted in the present. You’ll find a few of your favorites such as I’ll Fly Away
knowledge tends to be of the more contemporary sort.
This is Jeanne’s second album, the first being The Journey’s Abut To Begin in 2005. Jeanne is a singer and songwriter as well as an actress in the theatre around the Chicago area. She credits her parents for giving her the love of music and particularly “Church Music”. Oh and if you’re interested, she plays a Taylor.
You can hear examples of her music on her web site.
