Band/Artist: Forever Changed
Album: “The Need to Feel Alive”
Label: Floodgate Records planet terror online
This is the first national release for the Florida based Forever Changed. Their style is a mixture of EMO, pop and punk. Several reviews I read seem to think they sound a little U2-ish at times. I don’t know, I think that’s stretching it. I don’t really hear it. I think they sound closer to bands like Juliana Theory, Further Seems Forever and Anberlin.

The CD is most intense at the beginning and then starts to back off some and ends with a couple of ballads. But they keep their emotional edge throughout. The vocals are melodic and the instrumentation is tight. For as young as these guys are, they have a very deep level to their music.
The CD begins by dealing with the frustrations of relationships and spirituality. “Encounter”, probably my favorite track, is about focusing on the truth in the midst of the temptations of this world. “Great Divide” is about someone dealing with the divorce of her parents. “Identical” deals with the small things that seem to divide the church.
Mostly what I hear throughout the CD is people dealing with the junk of living in this world. I’m feeling a lot of teen-angst in here, which isn’t bad. I cut my teeth on this type of music. What I don’t hear, and I’m probably missing it, is the hope that we have in Christ. I see little bits here and there, but I don’t come away with much of it in the end. I would also have liked to hear just a bit more diversity in the music. There’s a point in the CD in which everything begins to sound the same.
Forever Changed is good, they have a lot of talent and I’m sure they will continue to grow as musicians and song writers. This album is pretty good and I look forward to hearing more from them in future.
