Band/Artist: A Dream Too Late
Album: “Intermission to the Moon”
Label: Tooth & Nail Records
Welcome to “Intermission to the Moon,” the debut album for A Dream Too Late, the Albany, Oregon trio of Reid Anderson (vocals/keys), Chris Eddie (guitar/vocals) and Garrett Pifer (bass/vocals). The band’s sound is indie
rock, somewhat like Falling Up, Anberlin or Mae. Think melodic indie rock, with a touch of synthed up emo
.

The album is very polished and tight but feels a little too done, maybe a bit too well done. OK, I admit I like a bit more rawness in my music and over-production can put me off some. However, that doesn’t mean I dislike it, it’s just not necessarily in the music realm that I frequently travel.
Actually, the band is quite talented. The music and lyrics are well written. The vocals and guitar work have a soaring, ethereal sound at times. The album deals with themes of hope and faith but also touches on life issues as well. “Daylight” speaks of the omnipresence of God and holding on to hope. “Can I Start New” is about the desire to begin again. “Trendsetter,” bemoans our culture’s obsession with popularity and being hip and trendy.
So here’s the lowdown, if you’re big into the indie sound of bands like Falling Up and Anberlin, you’ll dig A Dream Too Late. If the indie/emo thing feels played out, then it may not be for you. The guys are talented and I hope to see them grow beyond the genre.
