Band/Artist: 12 Stones
Album: “Potter’s Field”

Label: Wind-Up Records

I was really looking forward to this CD coming out. I had really liked what I heard from these guys off their first CD. And I have to say that I really like this CD. It hasn’t disappointed me. And I’ll be honest; “Potter’s Field” doesn’t break any new grounds. But I really like this CD.

They start the album off in your face with “Shadows”, a song about rising above yourself and your inner junk. They followed by the equally intense “The Last Song” and the single “Far Away”. “Far Away” is about a friend who committed suicide. It’s one of my favorites. The song is an angry response to the death.

Another track that I really like is the acoustic “Photograph”. It seems to follow along with “Far Away.” Singer Paul McCoy says of the song, “People might expect Photograph to somehow be reassuring and say, ‘it’s okay’ - but it’s not okay. Instead, it steps up and says, ‘Don’t be a punk.’”

There really isn’t a song on the CD that I don’t like. There is intensity to the songs, with emotions that range from anger to remorse to angst. But the album doesn’t feel dark. Underneath there is a bit of hope that can be found and searched for.

The band is Paul McCoy on vocals, Eric Weaver on guitar, Greg Trammell on guitar and Aaron Gainer on drums. Their name is a biblical reference to the 12 stones in the breastplate worn by the priests. They’ve toured with groups such as Creed, 3 Doors Down and Skillet. Paul was featured on the Evanescence hit “Bring Me to Life” from the album, “Fallen”

There isn’t an overt “Christianity” to the CD. It’s very subtle. Like I mentioned before, it’s covert and underneath. The music, while remorseful or angry at times, says there are other, better ways to live. It attempts to point the listener in a different direction from which them may be heading. And I’ll say it one more time, I really like this CD.
